Our Volunteers and their Boxers
Dawn and Family |
After I moved away from
home and settled into my own home, we decided that we would like to get
a dog. I thought we would get a small fluffy type, but Matt wanted a dog
he could play with and not worry about stepping on. We researched
and decided that a Boxer was the right dog for our family. We brought Duke
home in September of 2002. He has been a handful from the beginning, and training has been a challenge. Like many people who get Boxers we were surprised at just how much energy they have. He did it all ,dug in the yard, chewed things, chased the cat, ate a jar of Vaseline and so on...... After one round of obedience he is better and calming down some. He is reliable at basic commands, which I never thought would happen! Duke is slowly but surely turning into a distinguished Boxer gentleman. We were searching the internet for information on Boxers and came across the rescue site. We wanted to help, and fostering was a great way for me to do just that. Fostering can be hard, but it is extremely rewarding. Seeing them go is both happy and sad. People often ask me how can I do this, don't I get attached ? Of course I do. I love these babies enough to let them go to their new and last home which I know is best for them. Then I can help another Boxer in need. |
